- Dental Implants are a permanent fixture in the mouth that is an ideal alternative to wearing a denture. So no matter if you have just one missing tooth or a complete set it still can be done.
- A dental implant is made up of a titanium rod, which is surgically placed into the jawbone, and this acts as an anchor to the one or more false teeth, which will then be placed on top of it.
- To check that it would be possible for you to have an implant our specialist will assess you and will need to take detailed X-rays of your mouth to check your jawbone will be able to take an implant and possible other tests. He will also be looking to check that your that your mouth is healthy as good oral hygiene is a big factor on aftercare of implants and supports the longevity of the implants.
- To have the implants fitted it will mean a small operation which takes place under local anaesthetic at our practice. You should not feel any pain during the procedure but it is normal to feel a little discomfort during the week following the surgery as your mouth is healing.
Time span of treatment: Our specialist at the time of your consultation should be able to give you some idea how long from start to finish it would take as every patient is different. To use as a rough guide after the initial surgery implants usually take 4-6months, but in some cases an immediate implant maybe possible.
